Story of Alfred Nobel - never too late to change your life

15/07/17, 7:18:01 AM: Bhaskar Rama Murthy Kattamuru: Alfred Nobel......Very interesting

Can you imagine reading your own obituary in the newspaper? What would people say about you? Alfred Nobel got the chance to read his own death notice, and he didn't like what he saw.

Alfred Nobel was a very wealthy and successful man. He had become an expert in chemistry and invented three of the most commonly used explosives in the world - dynamite, gelignite (used in mining) and ballistite, which is still used as a rocket propellant today.

With the huge fortune he made from these inventions, Nobel bought an engineering company called Bofors and turned it into an arms manufacturer. He made another enormous fortune designing cannons and guns and selling them around the world.

Then, in 1888, Alfred's brother died while visiting France. A French newspaper thought it was Alfred who had died and they published an obituary that began like this:

THE MERCHANT OF DEATH IS DEAD
Dr. Alfred Nobel, who became rich by finding ways to kill more people faster than ever before, died yesterday….

Alfred Nobel was shocked. Was this what people thought of him? Was this the legacy he would leave to the world? That's when he decided to use his vast wealth to make a positive difference.

Nobel set up a foundation with $250 million dollars in funding. Every year the
foundation would consult the leading experts in the world and hand out prizes to people who had made great contributions to humanity. There would be prizes for sciences, for literature, and for promoting peace.

Today the Nobel Prizes are probably the best known and most prestigious awards in the world. They have been awarded to great scientists, authors and activists and helped draw attention to many outstanding works and worthy causes.
Nobel set up his foundation in 1895: just in time to influence his own obituary. He died only a year later.

The Nobel Prizes accomplished his wish; they created a very different legacy for him than a reputation as "The Merchant of Death." He is not remembered as an explosives inventor or arms dealer, but as one of the greatest philanthropists of all time.

He is also a great example of how it is never too late to change your life and help make the world a better place.

What will you be remembered for?

Every single day is prime time

At what age in your life did you consider it the prime time of your life?

Dr. Tiny Nair.

Finally, it happened. I was in Standard VI. In the classroom, the blackboard looked hazy. I was unable to make out what the teacher wrote. I came home and announced, with dignity and pride, that I was now eligible for a pair of spectacles.
The next day, my father took me to the ophthalmic doctor, who meticulously examined me and instructed me to read 'ABCD' with various lenses on, asking me which of the lot provided the clearest vision. Finally, I gave my valued opinion, at which he laughed, took the frame out and passed two fingers where the lens should have been, to confirm my worst fears — I had no eye problem. My dream of walking to the school in stylish spectacles was shattered.
Spectacles and full pants were the fantasy for most of us at school because naked eyes and shorts made us feel like kids. At that age, we just wanted to grow up fast, whatever the means.
By the time I turned 42, my son told me that I was holding his comic book too far, when we read it together in bed. The ophthalmic doctor did the same ABCD test and wrote down the prescription for a pair of glasses. I reflexively asked: can I get contact lenses instead? Hair dye, contact lenses, loose shirts and Levis jeans at 45 are all directed at the same thing. Trying to look young, pretending that we have not grown up. Many of us got stuck for a couple of years at 39 before we had the guts to pronounce to the world that we are finally on the wrong side of 40.
When young, we desperately want to grow up and once we are there, we regret having grown up. At 89, my father does not care whether he grows old or looks young, whether people presume him to be 78 or 91; he is worried only about his grandchildren, both in college. While the grandfather is worried about their safety, the perturbed grandchildren say… "Grandpa, we have grown up, we are not children anymore."
That's the paradox of life. The young want to grow up. The grown-ups want to remain young. The elderly are bothered about their grandchildren who, in turn, feel that they are being overcautious. At every step, we want to change our role. Why not take a pause, look around and just enjoy the present? Every stage in life has its pains, awards and surprises. Savour it now, it will never come back.
I enjoy the aroma of everyday coffee rather than waiting for that rare outing to an expensive candlelight dinner.
My prime time? Every single day of my adulthood.
Right here, right now.

Take some breaks in your daily life

Switch off that computer.
Turn off your phone.
Take a break.
Wake up at 5.
Go outside.
See the Sun rise.
Don't take pictures.
Just admire the view.
Observe how the different colors unfold in the sky.
Close your eyes and listen to the sound of the birds chirping,
Smell the morning mist.
Feel the cool breeze going through your hair.
Walk some more,
Towards the beach,
Pay attention to the rising waves.
Feel the wet sand getting in between your toes.
Pick up some shells if you want,
Build a sand castle
Break it.
Build a new one again.
Head towards the lane.
Look at the people opening their shops.
Smile at the children boarding their school bus.
Walk some more,
To that little tea shop,
Take a sip.
Again, don't take any pictures.
Just savor the flavours.
Now go back to your home.
And continue the race.

But don't forget to take a break again.

Everyone has their own TIMEZONE

New York is 3 hours ahead of California,

but it does not make California slow.

Someone graduated at the age of 22,

but waited 5 years before securing a good job!

Someone became a CEO at 25,

and died at 50.

While another became a CEO at 50,

and lived to 90 years.

Someone is still single,

while someone else got married.

Obama retires at 55,

but Trump starts at 70.

Absolutely everyone in this world works based on their Time Zone.

People around you might seem to go ahead of you,

some might seem to be behind you.

But everyone is running their own RACE, in their own TIME.

Don't envy them or mock them.

They are in their TIME ZONE, and you are in yours!

Life is about waiting for the right moment to act.

So, RELAX.

You're not LATE.

You're not EARLY.

You are very much ON TIME, and in your TIME ZONE Destiny set up for you.

In conclusion don't be sad for getting late or behind someone, just Start Right Now in whatever circumstances are today.

Make today your day!!
Good morning.
